Silk Noil is a natural type of silk fabric made from the shorter fibres left over after the long silk filaments are removed during processing. Unlike smooth and shiny traditional silk, Silk Noil has a soft, slightly rough texture with natural flecks that give it an organic look. Despite its different appearance, Silk Noil is genuine silk, not synthetic or imitation, and it retains many of silk’s natural benefits such as breathability, moisture regulation, and being gentle on the skin, while offering the feel of cotton or linen.

Silk knit is a knitting technique used to create fabric from silk yarn, instead of weaving it like traditional silk fabrics. The fabric is made by looping silk threads together, similar to how T-shirts or jumpers are knitted. This knit structure gives the fabric natural stretch, flexibility, and a softer drape compared to woven silks like charmeuse or habotai. It stretches comfortably without the need for added elastic.

How to Identify Genuine Pure Silk from Fake Silk?

Testing with Bleach: Pure Silk will have fully dissolved in bleach within a couple minutes. It’s the most straight forward way to test because even silk blended won’t dissolve in bleach. If you want to test out product, we suggest grab a tiny bit of silk fiber from the invisible corner (avoid sewing thread) to minimize the damage.

Playing (CAREFULLY) with Fire: Real silk will slowly burn while exposed to the flame, won’t catch fire, will smell like burning hair while touching the flame, but will stop burning almost immediately when the flame is removed. Fake silk, on the other hand, will melt into beads, smell like burning plastic, and can also catch fire, continuing to burn when you remove the flame!
